Welcome to The 30-Year Plan for Greater Adelaide
The 30-Year Plan for Greater Adelaide describes our plan for how Adelaide should grow to become more liveable, competitive and sustainable. It will guide the long-term growth of the city and its surrounds over the next 30 years.
Adelaide is one of the world’s most liveable cities and a region that’s ever evolving. It all began with an inspired vision for an urban grid with generous boulevards and thriving public squares. This vision lives on today, growing to complement our unique landscapes and make Adelaide the great place that it is.
Greater Adelaide represents much more than just the CBD though, stretching from Victor Harbor in the south all the way to Kapunda in the north and beyond. Playing to our strengths, the city offers a gateway to internationally acclaimed food and wine producers.
The 30-Year Plan for Greater Adelaide was first prepared in 2010 and was updated in 2017 to respond to new challenges and opportunities.
The 2017 Update kept what was contemporary about the existing Plan and updated it where needed. It also incorporated much of what we have learnt from engaging in conversations with local councils, other government agencies and key industry and community stakeholders.
The State Planning Commission monitors the implementation of the 30-Year Plan for Greater Adelaide (the Plan) and provide updates on the progress of actions and targets.
In 2021 the Commission published a Report Card (PDF, 1641 KB) to measure progress against six high level strategic targets (PDF, 206 KB) that reinforce the State’s commitment to deliver a more compact urban form, and to manage growth within the existing urban footprint by monitoring how our city grows.
Living Adelaide is your guide to the 30-Year Plan for Greater Adelaide 2017 Update. We will ensure Adelaide is a city that continues to inspire, excite and be a great place to live.
